Position Description:

Reporting to the Controller and working closely with the CEO, the HR Generalist will develop, implement, and manage company policies and procedures. The HR Generalist will manage all functional areas with responsibility to include employee relations, salary administration, payroll, benefits, training, and staffing. The HR Generalist will keep the leadership team abreast of changes in employment law as well as ensure legal compliance. The HR Generalist will also make recommendations that encompass trends and new developments within the human resources function. The HR Generalist will work independently and makes decisions that are in the best interest of the organization.

Key Outcomes:

    1. Maintain high employee satisfaction as measured by quarterly employee surveys.
    2. Reduce the time to hire and cost per hire for open positions while hiring top talent as tracked by performance ratings for new hires.
    3. Achieve low employee turnover relative to similar companies in the industry and St. Cloud.

Job Responsibilities:
Planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of the HR function, including:

Staff Planning, Recruitment, and Selection

    • Coordinates the Company’s staff planning and forecasting activities and develops an ongoing recruitment strategy that ensures all teams and projects are appropriately staffed with top performers that fit the culture.
    • Ensures current position profiles/descriptions are in place for all positions that includes key responsibilities, reporting relationships, training and development requirements, career development potential, and qualifications and experience required by potential candidates.
    • Together with leaders and department heads, plan, coordinate, and lead the process for staff recruitment in a way that promotes a positive employer brand.
    • Develops tools and provides coaching to managers to help formalize the recruitment process.Uses current and best practices in recruitment and staffing to fill new talent needs that cannot be met through internal staffing moves or development of existing talent, working with local and industry recruiters as necessary in a cost-efficient manner.

Communications and Employee Relations

    • Acts as the Company’s resource to employees and managers/supervisors at both the office and production locations in St. Cloud, as well as for remote employees.
    • Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forward; takes steps necessary to problem solve the issues to the satisfaction of all participating parties.
    • Works with managers to address any employee concerns or issues.
    • Assists and/or participates in disciplinary meetings, suspensions, and terminations in a respectful manner; oversea offboarding process.
    • Supports the Company’s commitment to a safety culture through participation at safety meetings and appropriate involvement in the roll-out of new safety initiatives.
    • Talent Retention and Development
    • Overseas employee onboarding process to set the stage for a long and productive tenure at the Company.
    • Identifies, on an ongoing basis, training and development needs across the site, and coordinates training program roll-out with managers and employees.
    • Manage employee enrollment in benefits and pension plans.
    • Working with others, organize various Company events to promote positive relationships and employee engagement across the organization.
    • Act as a point of contact for different employee inquiries.

Qualifications:

    • A degree in Human Resources or related field.
    • Minimum five years’ experience in an HR role, preferably in a growth-driven and production-oriented culture, reporting to senior management or ownership.
    • Demonstrates the trust and approachability needed to become the go-to person for employee issues and concerns.
    • Experience in recruitment and onboarding function.
    • Tact and diplomacy are required to maintain the utmost confidentiality of information.

ABOUT STARRETT TRU-STONE TECHNOLOGIES

Starrett Tru-Stone is a specialty manufacturer of products for high-precision machine bases & assemblies, metrology bases or accessories. You will work closely with our experienced staff in HR, engineering, purchasing, production, quality, and shipping. Our primary industries are semiconductor equipment, manufacturing automation, vision, laser metrology and research laboratories.

You will work in our state-of-the-art, climate-controlled facility located in Waite Park, Minnesota. Newly renovated office space with a private office.

We offer a sign-on bonus and annual bonus for this position. This is an hourly position. POSITION SUMMARY
Partner with Human Resources Manager in planning and executing human resource activities for the organization to maximize the strategic use of the human resources department. Maintain functions such as recruitment, personnel policies, and regulatory compliance. Full-cycle recruiting includes building and maintaining local, and online connections to ensure the very best talent sourcing and attracting the best candidates. Solid knowledge and execution of human resource functions (e.g., hiring, terminations, employee law, reporting). Serve as back-up to the HR Manager as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, and opportunities for promotion.
    • Advise managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity, sexual harassment and recommend needed changes and training.
    • Conflict resolution.
    • Process and defend unemployment claims and other legal matters to minimize company impact.
    • Work closely with the Hiring Managers and Production Manager to assess staffing needs, source candidates and complete the hiring process.
    • Plan, implement, and monitor the company’s recruiting strategy including job search companies, social media, and local entities.
    • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitudes toward organizational objectives.      
    • Conduct exit interviews to identify reasons for employee termination.
    • Act as an ambassador by driving the companies’ culture, vision, values, and policies.
    • Selection of venders, interpreting and administer contracts.
    • Work with staffing agencies and other entities by updating each on current openings, processing candidate applications, and communicating in a timely manner.
    • Plan and prepare with local colleges and universities and attend job fairs and other recruiting and company events.
    • Support Operational Excellence or other continuous improvement programs as needed.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

    • Strong communication skills including verbal (active listening), written documentation.
    • Exceptional computer and organizational skills.
    • Results driven, highly motivated.
    • Ability to ascertain confidential information and maintain confidentiality.
    • Extensive experience with social media and other mediums.
    • Knowledge of laws and regulations involved in employee law and the Human Resources field.
    • Previous experience in recruiting and HR.
    • Certifications in SHRM and/or HRCI desired
    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or equivalent experience
    • Two to four years related experience
